To my husband on our second anniversary:
For two years now we’ve been joined
dear husband of mine.
There is a well down inside me and it’s drink
is sweet, is strong, is a wind-swept prairie heartbeat
handed over to your clasp.
In all of this life I will hand it to you;
in the light-struck thunderstorms,
in the howling rain,
in the cool shaded breeze,
in the overbearing stillness,
in the soft falling showers,
in the biting ice layers,
in the unrelenting summer sun.
On this day I give and promise to you again
my love and my heart.
I will love you in your pieces dear husband, and
I will love your whole.
How much do I love you?
I cannot answer that my love.
I can only go to the well and offer up to you
all that I have to drink.
